Unfortunately, the end of summer is near, but make the most of it by spending it in the Minnesota Northwoods with family and friends. Your options for adventures are endless. Whether you just want to sit back and relax or explore the area, there’s something here for everyone.

Summer is in full swing, and our outdoor recreation activities, including those on the lake, are a blast for the whole family! Head out to the lake soak up some sun, catch a few fish, or get those skis or tubes going behind the boat. If the boat isn’t what you’re looking for, most of our resorts have multiple water toys available for guests to use. They are perfect for kids and adults alike.

If you’re looking to explore the wilderness, you can either venture out to the nature that surrounds your resort, or take a little trip to one of ten forest/recreation areas in the Minnesota Northwoods. Each has unique sights and history to it.

Itasca State Park is the oldest and most popular park in Minnesota. Plus, it’s only a 45-minute drive from your favorite vacation spot in the Minnesota Northwoods. In the summer, you’ll find the headwaters of the Mississippi River, 6,000 acres of old-growth pines, including the largest red pine and the largest white pine in the state, and miles of hiking and biking trails.

Facilities at the park include the Headwaters History Center, Douglas Lodge and Museum, Gift Shop, and bike and boat rental outlets. Some activities at the park include weekly naturalist programs during the summer months, guided boat tours on Lake Itasca, the annual Ozawindib Walk (5K or 10K), the Headwaters 100 Bike Ride/Race, and a variety of daily events.

Outdoor activities aren’t the only thing the Minnesota Northwoods has to offer! Other entertainment options in the area guarantee never-ending fun!
