The Lost 40 is 144 acres of beautiful woods filled with wildflowers and birds. The red pine “Big Tree Champion” can be found here. The champion is 120 feet tall with a 115 inch circumference. The wildflowers are in full bloom from early to mid-summer.
We are fortunate to be able to enjoy the Lost 40. During the logging craze of the late 1800s the woods were miscalculated as a body of water resulting in them being left untouched by loggers. The Lost 40 contains some of the only remaining “old growth” timber, some of the trees are over 300 years old.
What can you do in the Lost 40? You can bird watch, hike and take photography. The forest isn’t just for enjoying in the summertime. In the winter you can snowshoe and cross-country ski.
